How teacher pay is structured
Regular districts generally serve K–12, so elementary and high school teachers normally use the same district teacher pay framework rather than separate grade-level district schedules. Teacher compensation is locally collectively bargained within statutory limits, and Indiana raised its minimum teacher salary to $45,000 beginning June 30, 2025; it does not prescribe a single statewide step-and-lane schedule.

For prospective educators
You'd be a good fit if you want locally bargained pay with a state minimum starting salary, a low cost of living, and many mid-sized districts.
